Answer
As most of the features are implemented in the frontend or need communication between the frontend and the engine, it is not possible to use the Smuxi engine with another application yet.
If you wish to use a console/text based frontend for Smuxi, it is called smuxi-frontend-stfl. Just make sure you have the STFL library installed and pass --enable-frontend-stfl to the configure script during the build.
What about other frontends? Well, the frontend needs a lot of development therefore maintaining the frontend requires a lot of effort. This is the reason why only one GUI frontend and one text frontend is available for now. If you would like to have another frontend, feel free to develop one, but be aware you will have to maintain it also in the future.
