i noticed a glitch with the scrollbars.
when a user ( join/ quits/ closed connection/ ) & ( long urls/ ) the following action happens on screen
the scrollbar next to the user list shift to the right and snaps back.
also when this scrollbar shifts to the right some times the scrollbars appear at the bottom of the chat window.
i these scrollbars movements are part of gtk.

further inspection i come to the conclusion
that the user panel is automatically adjusting itself
while user are actively joining & exting the room.
freenode (ubuntu & debian) rooms where used for my example.

Resizing the nick list when other users join or part can be annoying if their nickname is very long. For this reason Smuxi should only auto resize it once at join and not after that. The Smuxi user can still resize the nick list himself if needed.
