The issue exactly is that retweeted messages get automatically truncated if longer than 170 chars which can easily happen as "RT @$nick: " gets prepended. E.g.:
... <text>RT @shaver: @migueldeicaza, 2004: "worst case scenario is one where Sun goes down the drain but still sitting on a pile of patents" http ...</text> <truncated>true</truncated> <retweeted_status> <text>@migueldeicaza, 2004: "worst case scenario is one where Sun goes down the drain but still sitting on a pile of patents" http://bit.ly/9aj9xu</text> <truncated>false</truncated> ... </retweeted_status>
