Description
Starting smuxi-frontend-gnome with a terminal may confuse the user, as the connection dialog starts at the front-end, nevertheless the password is requested at terminal. In combination with the "ssh-port is not yet ready retrying messages" this may confuse the user.
Starting frontend should use frontend to handle this situation

This needs a fix in the openssh client, see:
https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69
Alternatively the openssh tunnel setup needs to be replaced with a managed SSH implementation, this would also solve the issue to pass passwords securely on Linux and Windows.
